JOB PURPOSE

As the Environmental Engineer, you will lead the environmental strategy and compliance efforts at our manufacturing site. This role is a key member of the SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) team, with a strong emphasis on environmental performance, regulatory compliance, and sustainability. In addition to environmental responsibilities, you will also oversee the site’s long-term strategy for facilities and utilities infrastructure, ensuring alignment with environmental goals and operational efficiency.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the site’s environmental programs, including air, water, waste, and chemical management.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, state/local agencies) and corporate standards.
  • Serve as the site’s primary liaison for environmental inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor and report environmental performance metrics; identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives such as zero waste, water conservation, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint reduction.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training and awareness programs for site personnel.
  • Support incident investigations related to environmental events and ensure timely resolution and corrective actions.
  • Lead the strategic planning and oversight of site facilities and utilities, including energy systems, water treatment, HVAC, and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring alignment with environmental and operational goals.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to integrate environmental considerations into capital projects and facility upgrades.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support SHE culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

Experiences & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in an environmental or facilities-related role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with utilities systems (e.g., boilers, chillers, compressed air, wastewater treatment).
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $86,080 to $129,120. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
