Job Purpose
We are seeking a detail-oriented and forward-thinking Reliability Engineer to join our team at Simcoe. This role combines the structured discipline of maintenance planning with the technical challenge of reliability engineering.
Our goal is to strive for zero breakdowns and efficient maintenance costs. The Reliability Engineer will play a key role by coordinating corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities while developing technical capabilities in both maintenance and operations teams.
The role will focus on advancing the Progressive Maintenance (PM) pillar, implementing condition-based monitoring technologies, improving MRO (spare parts) management, driving PM utilization, and building team skills. Success will be measured through safety, equipment reliability, MTBF, PM/CBM completion, inventory accuracy, and cost management.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve maintenance team skills to enhance process performance and support CI and autonomous maintenance tools.
- Lead Progressive Maintenance (PM) pillar deployment across all site areas; coach, audit, and ensure compliance with standards.
- Strengthen adherence to company policies, safety, quality, and maintenance standards.
- Assign tags to mechanics and relevant stakeholders.
- Validate and maintain PM tasks as per OEM standards and ensure accuracy in the local system (AMMS), which will transition to CMMS in the near future.
- Ensure PMs are conducted within scheduled time frames.
- Manage predictive, preventive, scheduled corrective, and refurbishment activities to reduce downtime and maintain efficiency.
- Develop maintenance plans using historical data and trend analysis.
- Ensure corrective work orders are generated from critical PM and CBM reviews.
- Schedule and manage equipment refurbishments using PCP reports and operational data.
- Maintain equipment efficiency through compliance with PM programs and renovation schedules.
- Support vendor management for contracted maintenance services.
- Maintain accurate documentation for PM, PdM, equipment conditions, and implemented improvements.
- Coordinate training for maintenance and operations teams on equipment and process improvements.
- Optimize SAP PM/AMMS for planning, work order tracking, spare parts requisition, and service execution.
- Manage spare parts inventory; improve cycle count accuracy, inventory levels, and reduce turnaways.
- Lead RCA for recurring failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Track and report reliability KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, downtime trends) and drive monthly improvements.
- Review and update PM/PdM schedules based on breakdown trends and repetitive issues.
- Map and assess critical equipment to prioritize PM and PdM activities.
- Develop and deploy predictive maintenance strategies (vibration, thermography, oil analysis).
- Provide reliability input into capital projects and new equipment design.
- Conduct spare parts criticality analysis to balance cost, lead time, and reliability risk.
- Lead CI initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime and improve asset performance.
- Mentor technicians and operators to embed a reliability culture on the shop floor.
- Support GII Pillar Methodology for innovation and initiative management in new projects.
- Lead engineering and maintenance projects per RACI Matrix responsibilities.
- Participate in systemic and improvement groups aligned with PM pillar and Integrated Systems methodology.
- Manage and report maintenance costs effectively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent technical experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in maintenance, reliability, or engineering roles (food manufacturing or Ice -Cream industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, refrigeration systems, and CMMS tools (AMMS/SAP/Buildapps)
- Proven ability to lead RCAs and implement reliability improvement plans
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret downtime and reliability data
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate across operations, maintenance, and engineering teams
