PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Customer Strategy Planner plays a pivotal role in translating brand and category strategies into actionable commercial plans that drive mutual growth for the company and its customers. By leading the development of channel and customer-specific strategies, this role ensures the effective deployment of pricing, promotion, and assortment levers across the trade. Working cross-functionally with marketing, sales, and supply chain teams, the planner delivers data-driven insights, optimizes trade investments, and enables brilliant in-market execution. The role is central to aligning strategic intent with operational excellence, ensuring both brand equity and commercial performance are maximized.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver category & brand strategy for growth
Translate category and brand strategies into actionable trade plans to drive mutual growth for company and customer.
Lead the National Category Building Plan, trade reviews and promotion evaluations with key customers.
Collaborate with Key Accounts to co-develop tailored promotions that align with marketing plans and enhance retailer commitment.
Partner Brand Managers to assess category opportunities, analyze competitor / channel behavior and support annual planning and forecasting.
Prepare and present category reviews; co-lead category management initiatives including thematic promotions and space / category optimization.
Provide detailed analysis of actual sales vs. forecast and propose rolling plans by channel or channel to optimize results.
Integrate shopper insights into visibility strategies and generate actionable deliverables with brand team.
Enable brilliant execution
Ensure seamless implementation by aligning sales teams on marketing and trade initiatives
Collaborate with Brand and Key Account Managers on pricing, forecasting, issuing of trade letters and premium sourcing.
Support POSM development and implementation to enhance in-store execution
Supply Chain Management
Lead volume projections for new product launches (NPD)
Jointly responsible with supply chain for forecast accuracy and managing slow-moving / obsolete stock KPIs
CommercialManagement
Track and manage channel investments and P&L, ensuring non-contractual spend remains within plan.
Measure and review category performance by channel; support customer / category-specific management projects to meet strategic objectives.
Net Revenue Management
Drive Net Revenue Strategy and capability building for revenue realization and maximization.
Develop pack-price strategy recommendations, including elasticity analysis, competitive positioning and profitability assessment.
Track Category Pack Price (PPP) by channel and evaluate pack size profitability and positioning for input into brand and category strategy
Analyze historical promotions to guide trade promotion budget allocation by channel and category.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE/SKILL/KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor's Degree.
2-4 years relevant working experience in Customer Strategy & Planning, Trade Marketing in the FMCG industry.
Experience in relevant field sales or trade marketing (spaceman) experience.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILL/KNOWLEDGE
Strategic Commercial Planning: Strong ability to translate data and insights into actionable trade strategies that align with brand and category objectives.
Cross-Functional Influence: Proven ability to influence and align stakeholders across marketing, sales, and supply chain to drive integrated execution.
Analytical Thinking: Skilled in synthesizing multiple data sources (e.g., Nielsen, Kantar, internal sales data) to shape strategy and optimize trade investments.
Executional Excellence: Demonstrated ability to drive operational follow-through, ensuring plans are implemented effectively in-market.
Agility & Ownership: Self-starter with a strong sense of accountability and the ability to lead initiatives in a lean, fast-paced environment.
Communication & Storytelling: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present insights and strategies clearly and persuasively.
