We have established four Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City, São Paulo and Barcelona, which form an integral part of the Legal Function and provide defined, structured services to our other lawyers and to the wider business.
Where this position fits-into the team:
- Part of the Global Data Privacy Central Team
- Part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse – a team we’re currently building, which consists of around 25 colleagues in Barcelona
- Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function - a global operation consisting of approximately 500 lawyers and specialists
Key Responsibilities
- Advising our Business Groups, Business Units and functions on how to embed privacy operations and accountability
- Supporting the Privacy Risk Assessment (PRA) process to implement auditable reporting of high-risk data processing activities and delivering a strengthened business accountability model.
- Provide support on our global incident response processes including liaising with cyber security teams
- Contribute towards the development of training and communication programs for acquired businesses, business groups, business units, business functions and employees
- Provide legal guidance on global privacy regulations and ensure compliance with evolving standards across various jurisdictions, focusing on both regional and worldwide operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business units and acquired entities, to integrate privacy practices, establish accountability frameworks, and promote a culture of privacy awareness
- Support initiatives to address emerging challenges at the intersection of data privacy and new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, while aligning with global regulatory trends and business objectives

- Must be able to quickly assimilate information, scoping out legal risks and provide pragmatic, commercial advice to the business
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral: ability to communicate with global business partners in different time zones and with countries where English is often not the first language
Qualifications & Experience
- Legally qualified, with experience in the field of data protection and privacy and proven experience of successfully influencing senior business leaders
- Privacy experience derived from within a multi-national global organisation or law firm (indicatively 1-3 years PQE)
- Experience in large scale privacy transformation projects, preferably in the legal, compliance or risk sector
- Experience in working with offshore teams virtually, with proven ability in delivering change projects from initiation to business handover
- Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills, with demonstrable experience of prioritising effectively and managing diverse and multiple requirements
- Commercially aware specialist, capable of applying regulatory principles and frameworks to complex commercial and operational arrangements
- Experience and an understanding of global regulatory pressures
- Experience with setting up, using or advising on Privacy Risk Assessment processes in a global company (e.g. One Trust or similar)
- You have experiencing designing and implementing privacy training
- You have capability to adapt to changing priorities in line with the business and organisational needs in the ever-evolving data and digital landscape, identifying competition issues that intersect with data privacy regulation
- You are proactive, highly collaborative and respond positively to change and new ideas. You tackle matters with curiosity and eagerness, and you are motivated to invest your energy in helping others to reach their own level of understanding of privacy matters with you
- Strong communication skills in English language
Preferable
- US and EU IAPP certification as a data protection professional - preferred
- Working towards or achieved new AI Governance Profession IAPP certification – preferred
- Other European languages: French – preferred
