PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Access Management product team plays a pivotal role in delivery of core foundation services that underpin how our business users, suppliers and customers securely and seamlessly access Unilever devices, applications and platforms every day.

As part of the OAC Platform, the Directory Product team has direct end-to-end responsibility for the design, implementation and 24x7 operations of critical services and platforms that underpin authentication a lifecycle management and governance across Unilever’s expansive business application and cloud hosting environments.

As a Directory Product SME, your primary purpose will be to oversee the operations, development and implementation of directory & authentication product solutions. This includes ensuring the effective technical design of product processes, supporting application and service onboarding, troubleshooting issues, and serving as a product specialist within a dynamic team.  Additionally, you will strive to continuously improve our services, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our users and customers, and provide robust support to maintain secure, efficient and frictionless access.

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Serve as the internal technical authority for directory and authentication platforms (e.g., Active Directory, Entra ID, LDAP, SSO, MFA).

  • Evaluate external suppliers’ solutions and operational procedures to ensure OAC Identity product governance and standards are maintained.

  • Act as a key representative and subject matter expert (SME) for the Directory & Authentication product area in externally led projects and initiatives.

  • Lead and troubleshoot complex issues across the integrated Identity landscape, collaborating with external vendors and internal Unilever teams and stakeholders.

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of secure, scalable, and resilient directory and authentication solutions

  • Drive delivery and execution by providing clear technical direction and oversight to the external provider, ensuring contracted outcomes and service levels are met.

  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, providing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis internally and guiding the external partner where necessary.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and enhance operational processes in partnership with the external provider to ensure seamless 24x7 service coverage, including monitoring, incident response, and service restoration.

  • Establish and maintain technical standards, policies, and best practices for directory and authentication services, ensuring these are understood and delivered upon by the external provider.

  • Support/lead on the documenting solution architectures, technical roadmaps, and integration strategies, collaborating with internal teams and ensuring successful execution by the external partner.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending enhancements that can be implemented through internal initiatives or via the external provider.

  • Conduct regular reviews of system performance, security posture, and compliance in conjunction with the external provider, ensuring the company’s policies and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Support audits, risk assessments, and remediation activities related to identity and access management, ensuring cooperation and accountability from the external provider.

EXPERIENCES & QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Experience & Qualifications

  • 5-7 years + hands on experience of working in a technical engineering role supporting and developing core Directory & Authentication products e.g.

  • Active Directory, MS Entra ID , Entra B2B, Entra MFA , Google Cloud Identity etc

  • Strong hands on experience of managing and administering windows based Active Directory

  • Management and support of directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP), databases (e.g., SQL), and identity federation protocols (e.g., SAML, OpenID Connect etc ) and scripting/development (e.g. Powershell, SQL, Python, Java etc)

  • Direct experience in development and configuration /integration of business applications and services to product platforms (Entra ID etc), optimising designs for security, access control management and seamless user experience.

  • Experience in design and implementation of Tiering, RBAC, least privilege access control principles across infrastructure and application services.

  • Providing L3/4 advanced engineering support and troubleshooting across largescale complex IAM deployments.

  • Experience in managing third party service support providers, ensuring supplier delivered solutions and technical operational procedure meeting required platform design governance and operating standards.

  • Supporting the evaluation of product capability and new features, identifying opportunities for service improvements and enhancements.

  • Working with external software providers and third parties to define and create solutions.

  • Strong awareness of Cyber Security principles and incorporation of security policies and procedures within designs and Identity platform operations

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating collaboration and informed decision-making across teams.

  • Proven track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives, including process automation and operational efficiency enhancements.

  • Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise directory services (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory, Azure AD, LDAP).

  • Deep technical understanding of authentication protocols and technologies (e.g., Kerberos, SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, MFA solutions).

  • Proven ability to design, implement, and operate complex directory and authentication infrastructures in large, multi-site environments.

  • Strong knowledge of security best practices, identity lifecycle management, and access governance.

  • Experience collaborating with outsourced or third-party support providers, including driving delivery, monitoring outcomes, and managing escalations.

  • Demonstrated leadership in defining technical solutions and ensuring successful execution, both internally and via external partners.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, CISSP, or similar) are highly desirable.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Batchelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar subject area

  • Product specific certifications: Microsoft, CyberArk, Google, Saviynt etc.

  • Knowledge of Technical/Cyber Security risk frameworks (e.g. ISO27001, NIST, FFIEC)

  • Ideally have worked in an Agile environment
